Visiting the Island & Fort
St. Catherine’s Island stands as Tenby’s most iconic landmark—a site rich in maritime history, diverse wildlife, and rugged coastal beauty. Located at the foot of Castle Beach, the island offers panoramic views across Carmarthen Bay, providing a unique vantage point of the Pembrokeshire coastline.
Operational Hours & Access Public opening times are published subject to both the prevailing weather conditions and the daily tidal window. While our objective is to provide consistent access to the general public during the season, the nature of a tidal island can occasionally present operational challenges. Visitors are encouraged to consult the published prior to crossing the beach.
Admission & Requirements Entry to the Island and Fort is structured as follows:
Adults (Over 15yrs): £5.00
Children (3 to 15yrs): £2.50
Infants (Under 3’s): Free of Charge
Canine Visitors: Well-behaved dogs are welcome provided they remain on a lead and owners adhere to standard “doggy protocols.”
To ensure a safe and enjoyable visit to this historic fortification, guests should arrive equipped with sensible footwear and clothing appropriate to the current season. Our island guides are on hand to walk you through the colourful history of the fort, from its military origins to its residential and zoological chapters.
How to find us !
Use the map below to navigate to the Island main gate located on the beach side of the Island opposite the Castle Beach slipway. Given the unique tidal entry and Island environment we have produced an “Access Statement” (Click Here to view Access Statement).
